Firearms Sales & FFL Transfers
A real gun counter: new and used handguns, rifles, and shotguns, honest trade-ins, firearms on pawn and layaway — and $40 flat FFL transfers with the background check included.
$40. Flat. Background check included.
Bought a firearm online or from an out-of-town seller? Federal law says it has to ship to a licensed dealer, not to you. Have it shipped to us. One fee, no add-ons, and we'll call you the moment it arrives.
Our owner did hundreds of these a month at his old store before a corporate office decided transfers "weren't worth the trouble." They are. Neighbors need a local FFL.

How a transfer works
Buy your firearm
From an online retailer, an auction site like GunBroker, a manufacturer, or a dealer anywhere in the country.
Have the seller ship it to us
Tell the seller you're using Big Ben's Gun & Pawn, 9721 Dayton Pike, Soddy Daisy, TN 37379 as your receiving FFL. Dealers can request a copy of our license at [email protected] — we send it dealer-to-dealer, same day.
We call you when it lands
We log it into our books and check the serial against the paperwork. Then you get a call — usually the day it arrives.
Paperwork and background check
Bring a valid government-issued photo ID with your current address. You'll fill out ATF Form 4473 and we run the Tennessee Instant Check System (TICS) background check through the TBI.
Pay $40 and take it home
Most approvals come back in minutes. Pay the flat fee and you're done.
What to bring
- A valid, unexpired government-issued photo ID (driver license or state ID)
- If the address on your ID isn't current: a second government document showing your current address (vehicle registration, hunting license, tax bill, or similar)
- Your order confirmation or the seller's name, so we match the right firearm to you
The rules, plainly
- Age: 18 or older for rifles and shotguns, 21 or older for handguns.
- Every sale and transfer goes through ATF Form 4473 and a TICS background check — no exceptions, no favors. That's federal and Tennessee law, and it's how it should be.
- Redeeming a pawned firearm also requires a TICS check under Tennessee rules, even though you owned it when you pawned it.
- We ship firearms only to other licensed dealers, never to individuals.
- Pick up promptly. We'll hold your transfer for 30 days after we call. If you can't make it in that window, call us and we'll work something out.
- If your background check is denied, you can appeal to the TBI within 30 days and we'll walk you through it. If it stands, we'll help arrange the return to the seller (return shipping is the buyer's responsibility).
- Private-party shipments: call us before the seller ships so we can tell you what documentation we'll need.
Buy, sell, pawn, layaway
In the case
New and used handguns, rifles, and shotguns from the brands people actually ask for, plus optics and accessories. Inventory turns fast — call about specific models.
Selling or trading
Bring your ID and the firearm (unloaded, cased). We check function and serial while you wait and make a straight cash or trade offer.
Pawn your firearm
Firearms make excellent collateral. Stored in a secure area, never put out for sale while your loan is active. A TICS check is required when you redeem it.
Layaway a firearm
10% down holds it. Form 4473 and the background check happen at your final payment; if the check is denied, you get a full refund. Layaway terms →
